Replacing Doors and Windows is a smart home improvement idea for saving energy and money. But what about that other major source of energy loss in your home - the attic? Omaha Door & Window's Insulation Department can protect your home from heating and cooling loss by making sure you have proper ventilation and by insulating your attic with InsulSafe SP Fiberglass Blowing Insulation.

U.S. Department of Energy recommendations for attic insulation and ventilation

Adequate Insulation is only part of the solution to preventing energy loss through your attic. Ventilation, the other half of the solution, is critical to protecting your investment
in your home. A proper ventilation system gives you the best protection against heat and moisture.  When heat and moisture aren’t removed from your attic with proper ventilation, serious damage and higher energy bills can occur.

Attic Insulation

InsulSafe® SP Insulation from CertainTeed was introduced in the early 1980’s as the first insulation product developed specifically for blowing applications. InsulSafe® SP is a fiberglass blowing insulation designed for open attics because it covers every nook and cranny and can be installed right over current attic insulation.  A well insulated home is a comfortable home, room to room and floor to floor.

What Is Ventilation?

What Is Ventilation

Good air in and bad air out is the way proper ventilation works. A proper Ventilation System consists of 50% Intake (under the eaves) and 50% Exhaust (near or at the roof peak at least 3 feet higher than the Intake system) One without the other just doesn’t work.

  • Simply the process of supplying a continuous supply of air through the attic space.
  • 50% intake/ 50% exhaust.
  • Exhaust must be at least 3 feet higher than the intake system.
  • Intake should be under the eaves.
  • Exhaust should be near or at the peak.

Why Ventilate?

To Get Rid of Heat

In hot weather, proper ventilation prevents the attic from becoming a “hot-box” that radiates unwanted heat down through the attic floor into the living area. Attic temperatures can reach 150 degrees without proper ventilation!

To Get Rid of Moisture

In cold weather, proper ventilation helps prevent moisture from condensing on the insulation, rafters, and roof deck.  Trapped moisture can rot wood members and rob insulation of its

R-value.
